A magnificent 1983-84 season was completed when Liverpool defeated AS Roma 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw on the Italians' own ground, the Olympic Stadium in Rome. With his outstanding performances, Hansen had made a telling contribution to a historic treble and, remarkably, claimed his 11th major honour in only seven seasons.
